Introduced in 2011 as a limited-edition performance version of the E82 1-Series, the 1-Series M Coupe features a 340 HP twin-turbocharged inline-six engine and widened bodywork as well as brakes, suspension, and a differential lifted from the E92 M3. Limited to just 983 units for North America and sold for one model year only, this 2011 example is one of 435 finished in Valencia Orange. It was delivered new to Reliable BMW of Springfield, Missouri optioned with heated front seats and an upgraded Harmon Kardon sound system. Having remained under the care of its original owner while upgraded with a short-shifter and serviced by the original selling dealer, this rare 1M is now being offered for auction showing just over 3k miles on the odometer by its seller out of Missouri.
The exterior is finished in Valencia Orange (B44), one of only 3 colors offered for this model. The 1M coupe can be distinguished from a standard E82 1-Series by its widened fenders, aerodynamic wing mirrors, specially designed front apron, high-gloss Shadowline exterior trim, quad exhaust tips, and rear decklid spoiler. The seller reports the vehicle has always been garage kept, paint protection film has been applied to the front bumper and front edge of the fenders and mirrors. A small blemish is noted on the roof, detailed images are provided in the gallery along with a clean CARFAX report and paint meter readings. This 1M rides its original 19” staggered-width BMW Style 359 light-alloy wheels with original Michelin Pilot Sport tires from 2011.
The cabin is upholstered in black Boston leather with orange contrast stitching, matching Alcantara dashboard trim and door panel inserts, and an Anthracite headliner. Driver’s amenities include automatic climate control, an optional Harmon Kardon hi-fi audio system, adaptive xenon headlights, a leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. A short shifter kit was installed under the original owner's care.
The 1M Coupe is powered by a 3.0L twin-turbocharged N54 inline-six engine shared with the Z4 sDrive 35iS, producing up to 335 HP and 332 lb.-ft of torque, with an overboost function allowing for an additional 37 lb.-ft of torque in short bursts. The rear wheels are driven by a 6-speed manual transmission and rear limited-slip differential borrowed from the E92 M3. The 1M can reach 60 MPH from a standstill in approximately 5 seconds, with an electronically-governed top speed of 155 MPH. The suspension is also taken from the E92 M3, including the double-jointed front axle and five-link rear axle constructed from aluminum, in addition to the braking system, equipping cross-drilled and ventilated 360mm rotors with single-piston sliding calipers in the front, and single-piston calipers in the rear with 350mm cross-drilled and ventilated discs. The CARFAX report shows a consistent history of maintenance at the selling dealer, with the vehicle driven around 500 miles since its last inspection and fluid flush in 2014.
